The festival de la relève symphonique 2014

 

Last Saturday, Benjamin and Elliott, along with other members of the Dolce Musica orchestra, took part in the Festival de la Relève Symphonique which was held  in Joliette. This annual activity invites orchestras from Quebec and Ontario to get together for the day and combine their talent to form a "super" orchestra of over 180 musicians. The musicians experience working with different conductors and have the chance to meet other kids who share their passion for music.

The boys really enjoyed their experience and were happy to spend the day and catch up with friends they had met on previous occasions. Elliott met an 8 year old cellist and they quickly formed a friendship. Young cellists are so rare, when they meet, they tend to stick together! After a long day of rehearsals, we were worried Elliott would fall asleep during their late evening concert but he managed to stay awake for the whole performance! As for Ben, he experienced being first chair of the second violin section and had to manage a little over 15 musicians sitting behind him. He was well prepared and he did a wonderful job. 

Next weekend, we are closing the orchestra season with a concert on Saturday for String Ensemble and a concert on Sunday for Dolce Musica. Elliott will be giving his last performance as first chair of the String Ensemble as he will officially be moving to Dolce Musica next year.

Première ronde CMC

Après 8 mois de préparation, les garçons ont participé ce matin à la première ronde de la finale régionale du Concours du Canada à Montréal au Centre Jeunesse Musicale. Comme il s'agissait pour tous les deux d'une première expérience, ils ne savaient pas trop à quoi s'attendre. Ils ont travaillé particulièrement fort dans les 5 dernières semaines pour finaliser la préparation du répertoire requis pour la première ronde: une étude et une pièce au choix.

Ils ont tous les deux été fidèles à leurs habitudes et ont offert au public d'excellentes performances. Pour accéder à la seconde ronde, les musiciens devaient obtenir un score combiné de 80% et plus. Et les résultats sont.....

Elliott, le seul participant dans son groupe d'âge, a terminé avec un score combiné de 87%, ce qui lui permet d'accéder à la finale provinciale. Il était particulièrement fier d'avoir accompli cet exploit à sa première expérience au CMC.

De son côté, Benjamin a terminé avec un score combiné de 88% ce qui veut dire qu'il participera aussi à la finale provinciale à Trois-Rivières le 26 mai prochain. Son grand rêve de participer au CMC est enfin arrivé et il était très fier de son premier résultat.

Un gros merci à Jean et Dmitry, les professeurs des garçons qui, semaine après semaine, travaillent avec acharnement avec nos petits musiciens.

Finalement, un merci tout particulier à Justin, notre fidèle pianiste accompagnateur. Justin nous quitte l'an prochain pour poursuivre une maîtrise en direction musicale aux États-Unis. Nous sommes tellement choyés d'avoir eu la chance de travailler avec lui pendant les 5 dernières années. Ses bons conseils (et sa gratte!) suivront Ben et Elliott tout au long de leur carrière musicale. Bonne chance Justin dans ta nouvelle aventure!

Pas de congé chez les Seah, on reprend le boulot dès demain avec la suite du répertoire pour la finale provinciale. Plus que 6 semaines avant la prochaine ronde!
