Last June, after the last performance of the Marguerite-Bourgeoys school ensemble, we came up with this idea to put together a trio. We already had a violin and a cello so all we needed was to find someone to play the piano. Right away, a student from the school came to mind for the boys and I and after talking to her (and her mom!) about the idea, she decided to jump on board. We couldn't be happier with our choice, Sarah is so hardworking, passionate and reliable, we feel like we have won the jackpot!
(I must ask Sarah's mom what she feeds her, the boys look so short next to her!)
After weeks of practicing their part at home and working with Jean at school, they were given the opportunity to perform in public for the first time at Judy Hung's Christmas Concert in Pointe-Claire. This was the perfect occasion to break the ice and show the crowd what they were made of. From the first note, they caught our attention. Actually, I think the audience was in shock and couldn't believe that this beautiful piece was performed by three young musicians aged 8 to 11 years old. I have heard the boys countless times but to hear all three play together, it was simply amazing. Their performed a trio piece by Carl Bohm and I have to admit, it is probably my favourite piece of the boys' repertoire this year.
The trio (which needs a good name by the way!) will be taking a two week break and will begin rehearsing again the first week of January. A second piece, to be selected by Jean, will be added to the repertoire. Competition registration is right around the corner and we need to make sure they will be ready to perform in the spring. In the meantime, I will start making matching bow ties and hair clips for their next concert!
