We're so lucky. We are surrounded by amazing people and the boys get to live experiences other people can only dream of.
I'm not sure where to begin. I guess the beginning will do.
At the Westmount Orchestra, there is a young talented composer in residence. His name is Leo Purich. He started composing when he was nine, has already over a hundred compositions under his belt and has won several awards with his compositions.

The boys have had the chance to play his compositions with String Ensemble and Dolce Musica for the past few years. His violin concerto has been playing in our car non-stop since Christmas. One would think the piece was written by a great composer from the Baroque period. Let's just say we are big fans! For your own enjoyement, below is a video of one of his compositions played by the Westmount Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Now, to the point. Jean knows Leo very well so I asked her if she knew if he had already written a piece for violin, cello and piano. She inquired and it turns out that he has not written such a piece yet. He told Jean that he would be very interested to write a piece for the trio and has agreed to compose something for the kids. Because he already has several "composing engagements", we'll have to wait until next fall but that's not a problem. The trio repertoire has already been selected for this year's competition so next fall is actually quite perfect. I still can't believe the boys will have their own mini Haydn composing for them. What an honour!
